Week 1 · See · Day 06 of 30
Rehearse and revise
- 8 min
- Evening loop
- Library: the meaning shelf
- Library: Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus
Today's intent (planned)
Rest with your scene for one minute this morning. Tonight, replay one moment of the day the way you would choose to act next time.
The practice
- Morning: set today's look-for in
reality/log/<today>.mdas- Looking for: …. - Close your eyes for one minute and stand in your scene as an ordinary moment you are already in. Add
- Rehearsed the scene: yesto the log. - Evening: choose one moment from today you would handle differently. A reply, a reaction, a start you skipped.
- Replay it once, eyes closed, start to finish, with you acting the way your "I am" lines describe. Leave everyone else as they were. Change only your part.
- Write your chosen response in the day log as
- One correction: …(Studio: Today).
Why it works
Meaning
The evening revision is an old contemplative practice. You let the day end on the response you choose, rather than on the replay you dread. It does not change what happened, and it is not meant to. What it means to close the day this way is yours to notice.
Mechanism
Rehearsing a specific response makes it more available when the same cue comes back, and mental practice improves performance on practiced tasks. Changing only your own part keeps it honest: you rehearse a choice, not someone else's behavior. A fixed evening review is how a day's experience becomes one correction for tomorrow. The rehearsal prepares an act; it is not the act.
Tonight (reported)
Add an entry at the top of reality/witness.md, headed ### <today> <time> · lesson (Studio: Witness):
- Happened (fact): The moment, as an observer would describe it.
- Meant (my meaning): What it showed you.
- Did (action): Only what is done. The replay is done; the new response is not yet.
- Next (planned): The response you will use next time.
- Did it come? Mark this morning's look-for in the log:
- Did it come: yes, noornot marked. A no is counted, never hidden.
