← The Imaginal Act, thirty days

Week 4 · Compound · Day 27 of 30

A small vow

Today's intent (planned)

Write one vow you keep regardless of mood, with a tired-day version small enough for a very hard day.

The practice

  1. Set today's look-for in reality/log/<today>.md.
  2. Ask: of everything in this practice, which one thing do I want to keep for years? The evening line, the rep, the look-for, the weekly seal?
  3. Write it as a vow: "I write one honest line every evening."
  4. Write its tired-day version, for days when you are sick, grieving or overwhelmed: "On a hard day, one sentence counts."
  5. Add both under ## Vows in soul.md (Studio: Soul). Few and kept beats many and broken.
  6. Optional: add the tired-day version under ## State in reality.md, as a non-negotiable your agents should protect.

Why it works

Meaning

A vow is a thread through good days and bad ones. It is not a test of worth. It is a choice about who you are being, renewed each time you keep it. Character can be tended like a garden, slowly. A small vow kept for years can mean more than a grand vow kept briefly.

Mechanism

Habits form through repetition in a stable context over weeks to months, so the version you can keep every day matters more than the one you keep on good days. A tired-day minimum keeps the cue and the routine alive when the full rep is out of reach. This is the One Law at small scale: attention and belief become results only through action, repeated.

Tonight (reported)

Did you keep the vow today? If yes, add an entry at the top of reality/witness.md headed ### <today> <time> · win, and its line to reality/evidence.md. If not, head it · lesson, and look at the vow's size (Studio: Witness).

  • Happened (fact): What you did, or did not do.
  • Meant (my meaning): What this vow means to you.
  • Did (action): Only what is done.
  • Next (planned): Tomorrow's version, full or tired-day.
  • Did it come? In the log: - Did it come: yes, no or not marked.
