Week 3 · Witness · Day 19 of 30
Gratitude
- 6 min
- Evening loop
- Library: Robert Emmons and Martin Seligman
Today's intent (planned)
Write down three things that went well and why, and keep one of them in soul.md.
The practice
- Set today's look-for in
reality/log/<today>.md. - Tonight, write three things that went well today or this week. Small counts: a good coffee, a kind message, a rep done on a tired day.
- For each, write why it went well. The why often names your part, or someone else's.
- Log each one as its own entry (see Tonight).
- Choose one to keep for hard days, and add it under
## Gratitudeinsoul.md(Studio: Soul).
Why it works
Meaning
Gratitude notices what is already good without waiting for the scene to arrive. It can sit beside wanting more; they are not rivals. What you are grateful for is a quiet map of what you love, and it is yours.
Mechanism
Controlled studies find that writing down what went well, and why, a few times a week can raise wellbeing. The effects are modest and consistent. Gratitude is not a lever on events, and it is not a treatment for depression. If your low days are heavy or long, a doctor or therapist is the right next step.
Tonight (reported)
Three entries at the top of reality/witness.md, each headed ### <today> <time> · gratitude (Studio: Witness):
- Happened (fact): What went well.
- Meant (my meaning): Why it mattered to you.
- Did (action): Anything you already did because of it, such as a thank-you.
- Next (planned): Optional.
- Did it come? In the log:
- Did it come: yes, noornot marked.
