- Library: Peter Gollwitzer
Today's intent (planned)
Rehearse today's rep and your bold move in your mind, obstacle included, then do the rep.
The practice
- Set today's look-for in
reality/log/<today>.md. - Close your eyes. See the place and time of today's rep, through your own eyes.
- Run it start to finish at normal speed: you arrive, you begin, the obstacle shows up, you do the then, you finish.
- Do the same for the bold move: the moment before you send it, and the moment you press send.
- Open your eyes and do the rep now, or set its time.
- Add
- Rehearsed the scene: yesto the log (Studio: Today).
Why it works
Meaning
Rehearsal lets you visit a moment before you live it, so it is less of a stranger when it arrives. Some people find it steadying, like walking a path once in daylight before walking it at night. What it gives you is yours to notice.
Mechanism
Mental practice improves performance on practiced tasks, and rehearsing a planned response makes it more available when the cue arrives. Your self-image steers which acts feel natural, and it grows mainly from small, real successes, which is why the rehearsal ends in an actual rep. Rehearsal prepares you. It does not do the rep, and it does not move events.
