← The Imaginal Act, thirty days

Week 2 · Bridge · Day 12 of 30

Change one thing in the room

Today's intent (planned)

Change one thing in your surroundings so the rep is easier to start and the old habit is harder to reach.

The practice

  1. Set today's look-for in reality/log/<today>.md.
  2. Go to where the rep happens, or should. Look at it as a stranger would. What is one step away? What is in the way?
  3. Make one change today, with your hands. The notebook on the chair. The phone charging in another room. Shoes by the door. The app off the home screen. A calendar block named after the rep.
  4. If a simple system could carry part of it, name one: a recurring reminder, a checklist, a weekly review an agent drafts for you. One, not five.
  5. Write the change under ## Environment in reality.md, which is yours to edit. Add the system under ## Bridge in reality/aims/<slug>.md as - Systems to build: … (Studio: Bridges).

Why it works

Meaning

Your rooms are part of your life's architecture. Arranging a room so it welcomes the person you are becoming can be an act of self-respect: a way to make the ordinary day kinder to your aims. What the change means to you is yours.

Mechanism

Environments and defaults shape behavior more reliably than willpower. What is visible and near gets done more; friction makes a habit less likely. A cue in a stable place supports repetition. This works on your behavior, not on events. If the change does not help within a week, that is information about the change, so try another.

  • Meant (my meaning): How the room feels now, in your words.
  • Did (action): Only what is done.
