← The Imaginal Act, thirty days

Week 2 · Bridge · Day 09 of 30

The smallest rep

Today's intent (planned)

Choose a rep small enough to do on a bad day, anchor it to something you already do, and do it once today.

The practice

  1. Set today's look-for in reality/log/<today>.md, and add - Focus: <slug> for your aim.
  2. Name the repeated action that moves your aim. Shrink it until it takes two to ten minutes: one paragraph, ten push-ups, one call.
  3. Anchor it to something you already do every day: "After I pour my morning coffee, I write one paragraph."
  4. Decide how many times per week. Three is plenty to start.
  5. In reality/aims/<slug>.md, add a ## Bridge heading with the line - Reps: and, under it, indented two spaces, - 3× per week — one paragraph after coffee (Studio: Bridges).
  6. Do it once today.

Why it works

Meaning

A small rep is a way of keeping faith with the scene on an ordinary day. It asks nothing heroic. Each time you do it, you may let it count as a quiet yes to the person in your "I am" lines. That meaning is yours to give it.

Mechanism

Repetition in a stable context makes an action more automatic over weeks to months, and an existing routine supplies the context. Belief in your own ability grows mainly from small, real successes, so a rep sized to succeed builds more than a heroic one you skip. Size is a setting, not a judgment. You can raise it later.

Tonight (reported)

If you did the rep, add an entry at the top of reality/witness.md, headed ### <today> <time> · rep and ending with - Bridge: <slug> · Domain: <domain> (Studio: Witness). Reps logged this way are what the pace check counts. If you did not, a lesson entry is just as useful.

  • Happened (fact): What you did, when and where.
  • Meant (my meaning): What it was like, in your words.
  • Did (action): Only what is done.
  • Next (planned): The next rep, with its anchor.
  • Did it come? In the log: - Did it come: yes, no or not marked.
