Week 3 · Witness · Day 16 of 30
Openings
- 8 min
- Evening loop
- Library: Richard Wiseman
Today's intent (planned)
Watch for openings today, an opportunity, a person, a door, and answer one within a day.
The practice
- Set today's look-for in
reality/log/<today>.md:- Looking for: an opening for <aim>. - Vary one routine: a different route, a different seat, a conversation you would usually skip. Keep it small and safe.
- Stay relaxed. Openings are easier to see when you are not straining for them.
- When you notice one, note it as it happens. A phone note is fine.
- Before tomorrow evening, do one thing with it: reply, ask, or put a time in your calendar. An opening you do not answer stays a possibility.
Why it works
Meaning
Openings can feel like small gifts inside an ordinary day. Noticing them may feel like a kind of attentiveness to your own life. Whatever an opening means to you, you give that meaning a shape when you answer it.
Mechanism
In small studies, people who saw themselves as lucky were more relaxed and noticed opportunities others missed. Part of luck is attention, and part is varying routines so you meet more chances. These are small studies: a useful lens, not settled science. An opening matters through what you do with it, which is why the Did line counts.

- Did it come: yes, noornot marked. No opening today is a counted no, and an ordinary day.
