← The Imaginal Act, thirty days

Week 1 · See · Day 01 of 30

The honest now

Today's intent (planned)

Write down what is true in your life today, plainly, before you imagine anything. You are taking a reading, not passing a verdict.

The practice

  1. Sit for one minute with nothing to fix. Ask: what is true today, in the parts of my life that are on my mind?
  2. Choose up to three life domains that are on your mind. The twelve are Body & Vitality, Mind & Mastery, Heart & State, Character & Code, Spirit & Source, Love & Union, Lineage & Legacy, Circle & Community, Wealth & Sovereignty, Craft & Contribution, Sanctuary & Lifestyle, and The Golden Age.
  3. For each, write one sentence an outside observer could check. "I slept about six hours a night this week," not "I am a mess."
  4. Underline the part of each sentence that is up to you today. Leave the rest as it is.
  5. Write each sentence into reality/atlas.md under a heading with the domain's name, as - True now (reported): … (Studio: Atlas). If the file is new, start it with # Atlas — updated <today>.

If writing this brings up something heavy, you can stop here. The README lists where to find help.

Why it works

Meaning

Honesty can be a form of respect. Before the scene, you meet your life as it is, without a story about what it says about you. A plain sentence is often easier to hold than a vague dread. Whatever this reading means to you is yours. It is a starting line, not a judgment.

Mechanism

Plans built from a clear present hold up better than plans built on a wish. In experiments, contrasting a wanted future with present reality supported follow-through, while picturing the future alone lowered effort. Separating what is up to you from what is not is an old practice and a forerunner of modern reappraisal. A written sentence can be compared later; a mood cannot.

Tonight (reported)

Create reality/witness.md with the heading # Witness. Under it, add your first entry, headed ### <today> <time> · rep (Studio: Witness):

  • Happened (fact): What did you write, and for which domains?
  • Meant (my meaning): What was it like to see it in plain words? Your words, or leave it blank.
  • Did (action): Only what is done: the sentences you saved.
  • Next (planned): One thing you will carry into tomorrow.
  • Did it come? No look-for yet; it starts on day 5. Leave that line out of today's log, so the tally counts only real look-fors.
